Segregation
Segregation is used to prevent voltages being induced into IS circuits from other sources:
- I.S. cabling, junction boxes, terminals and sometimes the apparatus are coloured BLUE to help identify them.
- Cabling may be run on the same cable tray, however must be kept separated from power and standard instrument cabling.
- I.S. barriers should be mounted in their own units
- When I.S. and standard instrument circuits run inside a common box, there should be plate barriers fitted and segregation not less than 50mm.
- Wiring from either standard instrument or I.S loops should be run and terminated in such a manner that a loose wire from an I.S. loop does not short to a standard instrument type of loop or, the other way around.
